Need for stabilizers
Just found this video made during the crossing. It shows that stabilizers wouldn’t be a bad thing
. Of course, on this video we have a 3+ meter swell coming in from behind, not the most typical weather conditions encountered near the coast but still… Walking around was kind of a low-impact aerobics exercise in these conditions.
On the other hand, with a different course, these vessels do just fine.

Videos of Atlantic crossing
I have uploaded a few videos of our Atlantic crossing last November on YouTube.com. Here they are.
On this one we are underway in the English Channel. The weather is getting worse but the big fun starts at night.
We took this one at night (with the deck lights on). It’s hard to see in the dark but the nose went up and down at least 9 meters (29 ft.) We slowed down to about 8 kn. Still, it wasn’t very comfortable.
Here are two views from the main deck at how we ride the ocean swell when we start leaving the English Channel.
Here a look around from the aft deck.
This one is taken a few days after the Azores if I recall well. Rolling, rolling, rolling…
A good look at the heavy swell on the next two videos:
And here’s a look at the scenery in the Kuna Yala archipelago (San Blas)

If the going gets tough, we just keep going
A very cool video of a North Sea trawler in stormy weather (Beaufort 9) and its fish hold (220 m3/7.770 cubic ft.) full of water due to a broken pipe. And still steaming ahead to port. Talking about seaworthiness. Our vessel’s damage stability will be even better then what you see here as we will add and re-adjust some watertight compartments.
By the way, there are more ’stormy’ video’s on that site.
